What is On-Page SEO?

On-page SEO is the process of optimizing individual pages on your website so search engines can understand them better and rank them higher. It covers everything you control directly on the page, from the content you write to the HTML elements you configure.

Unlike off-page SEO which depends on external factors like backlinks, on-page SEO is entirely in your hands. That makes it the best starting point for anyone looking to improve their rankings.

What On-Page SEO Covers

Title Tag - The clickable headline that appears in search results. It should include your target keyword and stay under 60 characters. It is one of the strongest on-page ranking signals.

Meta Description - The short summary below your title in search results. It does not directly affect rankings but influences whether someone clicks your page or scrolls past it.

Headings (H1, H2, H3) - Headings structure your content and help Google understand what each section is about. Your H1 should clearly reflect the topic of the page.

Content Quality - Google ranks pages that genuinely answer what the searcher is looking for. Thin, vague, or keyword-stuffed content rarely ranks well long term.

Keyword Placement - Your target keyword should appear naturally in the title, first paragraph, at least one heading, and throughout the content without forcing it.

URL Structure - A clean, descriptive URL helps both users and search engines. Keep it short and include your target keyword where it makes sense.

Internal Links - Linking to other relevant pages on your site helps Google discover more of your content and understand how your pages relate to each other.

Image Alt Text - Descriptive alt text tells search engines what your images contain. It also improves accessibility for users on screen readers.
